Netflix's latest British import, The End of the F***ing World, is a bright dark comedy that should not be missed. The series is a masterclass in its exploration of teen angst, set against the backdrop of what is seemingly the ideal town to raise a family in. James (Alex Lawther) and Alyssa's (Jessica Barden) search for companionship throughout the season is heartwarming -- even when they're acting similar horrible people.TeotFW succeeds in its quest to uncover the themes that shape a young person's life. While James and Alyssa definitely have social issues, there are reasons behind their actions that the writers accept their time to reveal. Their road trip of law-breaking and mayhem is a representation of what it looks like for teenagers discovering what it means to be adults. At that place seems to be a proficient understanding from the writers that people are complex, and that not all of their deportment can be explained with a single line of dialogue.

The supporting bandage is also peak-notch. Game of Thrones star Gemma Whelan is groovy as DC Eunice Noon. Her partner, DC Teri Donoghue (Wunmi Mosaku) is also memorable. Their differing opinions on how to deal with James and Alyssa is fascinating. The more Eunice learns about the lives of the two assailants, the more her views on what should be done with them, changes. It's an internal struggle that Whelan portrays effectively.

Directors Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak practise an incredible job of making the serial look as good equally it possibly can. The English countryside is beautifully filmed, which accentuates the show's already rich atmosphere. There is a shirtless walk through the woods with rays of sunlight shining through the copse and a lovely sunrise at the embankment that were particularly gorgeous. It's in these placidity moments where the show takes some necessary breaths. Every frame feels important, which is good, since the episodes are effectually 20-minutes apiece. The creators don't waste fourth dimension getting to the point of it all.
